Abhishek Agarwal asked:

Although the golf balls normally used nowadays look no better than hardened plastic balls, the materials used to manufacture them comprise of various things. The benefits of all such various components come together to create the best golf balls which are far superior and travel much better than their counterparts in play a hundred years ago.

Golf started as a medium to pass time in an enjoyable manner. However, it has outdone its expectations by emerging as the most loved sport in many countries over the years. It has a huge fan following world over and the golf professionals nowadays are able to get the golf balls customized as per their needs. This is nevertheless done adhering to the regulations set by the governing bodies. Following are the things that must be kept in mind while getting your golf balls designed:

-	The Golf balls weight must be a per specifications

-	The Golf balls size also must adhere to the specifications

-	There is a maximum permissible initial velocity which must not be exceeded

-	The shape of the golf ball should be spherically symmetric

-	There must be consistency in the golf balls lift, carry and drag

The make of the golf ball comprises of the core, followed by the intermediate layer and then the cover at top. The core has always been made in solid rubber. It can also be produced in titanium or the same kind of hybrid materials.

Nowadays, owing to its strength and longevity, many golfers use the twin layered golf balls made up of single solid core. This core can be either resin or hard plastic acrylate. Thereafter, these are covered with a hard man made plastic material called surlyn. Surlyn due to its hardness prevents the golf ball from scratches or nicks. However, this comes at the cost of lacking decent spin on the ball. Overall, these golf balls are inexpensive and durable, and thus are a big hit with many golfers.

On the other hand, the three layered golf balls which are better known by the name wound balls come with either a liquid or a solid rubber core. This is further covered by long stretches of elastic windings forming the second layer. The third upper layer of the cover can be either made in balata or surlyn. Balata covered golf balls offer more spin and thus better control.

However, these are relatively expensive and are not as durable as the surlyn covered golf balls. Hence, we can infer that the materials which go into making golf balls have significant impact on the durability, efficiency and the price of the golf balls.

Besides the two layered and three layered golf balls, there is also a third variety available in the market. These are known as one-piece balls. Such balls are made up of only one solid layer of surlyn with dimpled exterior and are normally used for practicing on the driving range. They are softer compared to the other types of golf balls and cannot be used to hit long distance shots.

Considering the variety of golf balls available in the market, one must pay good attention to ones requirements. Thus, having good knowledge about the golf ball material comes handy while making the purchase.

Louis

Shawn Mitchell asked:

Finding good golf ball reviews is essential to finding the best golf balls for your game. Very simply, without playing the best ball possible, you will never achieve your full potential with your golf game. Here are some important tips and information to help you to find the best golf balls for your game.

First of all, keep in mind that there are many different golf ball manufactures today. Of course, they all claim that their balls of the best, and are also the longest and straightest. Therefore, how do you know which ones are really the best for your game? Reading good and unbiased golf ball reviews. Fortunately for you, there are many of these online today, and finding them really isn’t difficult.

Here is a quick history of the golf ball, and how it has gotten to the point it’s at today. Golf balls basically come into different forms: wound or solid. The wound golf balls are the more conventional types that have been in play for many years. However, the solid balls have only been introduced as recently as 20 years ago.

Before, golfers mostly believed that solid balls offered them little spin and performed relatively poorly in general. This is because they were more used to the wound balls. However, with the technology today, this generally isn’t the case, and many have found that solid balls have actually caught up to wound balls in terms of overall performance.

In past days, golf balls that were generally built for distance and were usually much harder around the greens, and generally were hard as a rock when putting them. Therefore, you usually had either choose distance or accuracy or fail.

If you chose feel, the balls would not go very far. However, with the advanced technology of today’s golf balls, you can easily find balls it will still go along ways and have great feel around the greens. Of course, just about any ball you buy today will go a long ways and have reasonable feel around the greens; golf balls have come a long way since the old days. However, just because the balls have improved doesn’t mean that some aren’t better than others; thus the need to find good golf ball reviews to help you pick the best.

Some important things to look for when reading golf ball reviews is how the golf ball will take off, which is the launching of the golf ball. Also, the construction of the golf is very important. Some golf balls are three-piece balls, and others have a four piece, etc.

First of all, don’t just be convinced when you see your friends or other golfers using a particular kind of golf balls. Their games are probably much different than yours, and a different golf ball will suit everybody differently.

The bottom line is this: there are many great ball reviews to help unify the best golf ball is for you. All you have to do is a quick Google search and you will find the literally thousands of different websites that come up giving to golf ball reviews. Simply do your research and find the best golf ball for your game.

Katie

Peter Clark asked:

Ever heard of custom logo golf balls? No? Not a golfer? Custom logo golf balls are big business now. So what are they?

It’s perfectly possible to print a logo, or a slogan or a short phrase or even a photo right there on a golf ball. It looks great. There are a range of companies offering services on the net which allow the ordinary person or company to order custom logo golf balls.

But why would you want to?

Several reasons. Firstly logoed golf balls make a fine gift for a golfer. Let’s say you’ve got a gift to buy for someone who loves his or her golf. They have a golf bag. They have a set of clubs. They have a buggy. And even if they didn’t you couldn’t seriously consider buying any of those anyway.

You could buy some covers for his or her woods, but that’s been done before. But why not buy them some custom logo golf balls?

Print both sides of the ball. Perhaps a photo of them on one side and a short slogan or phrase on the other side. You can print both. Maybe a special message from you, or perhaps just their own name.

It’s a quite unique golfing gift, and noone is ever going to mistake their golf ball again.

And there’s lots more reasons. A custom logoed golf ball is a fine promotional tool. Lots of corporations use them. Perhaps to give away at trade shows. Or perhaps at a company golf day, or a give away at a seminar, or lots of other places where the company wants to promote it’s image. And every time the recipient tees up on the course, there’s your company logo looking up at them. Great for branding.

Or perhaps a bunch of logo golf balls for the high school golf team. Print up a few dozen, give them away to the people who hand out the sponsorships and you’ll increase your chances when the next sponsorship deal is coming up. It’s high school branding done well, and isn’t that expensive.

If you buy some of the cheaper golf balls you can get the ball logoed and supplied for not a lot more than $2 a ball. It’s budget promotion if you select some of the cheaper balls like the Callaway or Nike golf balls.

Or if you want to give out the best to the top people select perhaps a Titleist logo golf ball using the Titleist Pro V1. More expensive, but a high quality golf ball that people who play well will want to use.

That’s why custom logo golf balls are big business now. A great gift idea, and a fine, but cost effective promotional tool. So next time you’re looking for either, consider a custom logo golf ball, it works very well indeed. Whether you’re an individual looking for a great golfing gift idea, or a corporation looking to improve it’s marketing and branding, or just someone who loves the idea of having their own golf balls with their photo on them, a logoed golf ball does the job.

Mike

Lorne McCaslin asked:

Believe it or not, the golf balls you use can really have an affect on your game. Ever had a horrible day on the range? Or an unusually good day where you made every shot with ease? It could have something to do with the golf balls you choose.

Many golfers are playing with the wrong golf balls and they don’t know it. There are so many different balls available to choose from. One manufacturer can develop several different types of balls for different playing levels and budgets. You need to know how to buy the right golf ball to improve your game. It’s not enough to automatically choose the same golf balls as your favorite golfer. Most manufactures separate their balls into two categories: two piece and multi layer golf balls.

Two piece golf balls

A two piece golf ball is designed to be a distance traveling ball. It is made up of the core and a single cover.

They allow you to achieve maximum distance regardless of how fast you swing. Two piece balls usually perform like low spinning golf balls, and give you less sidespin when hit off center. They are cheaper to buy than multi layer balls since they use less material to make.

Multi layer balls

Multi layer golf balls are “three piece” or “four piece” balls consisting of a core, a second layer known as a mantle and a cover. These balls are a bit softer than two layer balls. This gives them a higher spin rate. The multiple layers that make up these golf balls transfers energy from the swing to give you greater distance. These balls perform well according to how they “feel” to an individual golfer. Since they can be more expensive, the best way to find out which balls perform the best is to try using a few different recycled multi layer balls first. This can save you the expense of buying a dozen balls that just aren’t right.

What type of player are you?

When you are looking for the right golf balls to help your game, you need to know what type of player you are, and the type of player you hope to become. For example, if you are a high handicap player who just wants to achieve more distance, a simple two piece ball will do the trick. If you want more back spin around the green to help you with your shots, a multi layer ball will work much better.

Finding just the right ball

Golf balls are more complex than many might imagine. Ball compression and the dimple count on your ball can affect the travel distance and spin. Again, the best way to find the best balls to enhance your performance is to try out a few different varieties first. Check with sporting goods stores to find out if you can purchase individual sleeves of golf balls instead of buying them by the dozen to save money.

Jeremy

Tarsem asked:

Choosing the right ball is critical to cutting your golf handicap. A ball impacts your game almost as much as your clubs, so it’s important to choose a ball that’s right for you. Below is a six-step process for selecting the right golf ball, a process I often review in my golf lessons and golf tips. It’s a relatively new selection approach. But first, let’s review the standard historical approach to choosing a golf ball.
Standard Selection Approach
With this approach you chose a golf ball going from the tee forward. In other words, you hit balls from the tee and observed their performance characteristics. You based your decisions primarily on control and distance, depending on their preference.
This approach was appropriate when ball-manufacturing technology was simpler. Here were your options.
If you wanted the ultimate in control, you chose a three-piece with a balata cover. It offered high-spin rates, soft feel, and good maneuverability, but it lacked durability. I used to recommend this ball in my golf lessons and golf tips for players with low golf handicaps adept at shot making.
If you wanted the ultimate in distance, you chose a two-piece ball with a Surlyn cover. This ball would travel far and last a long time. Unfortunately, its lack of spin greatly reduced control, especially around the greens. I used to recommend this ball for players with high golf handicaps who needed distance more than control.
If you wanted something in between, you choose a three-piece ball with a Surlyn cover. With this ball, you sacrificed a little control for more distance and durability. This ball worked relatively well.
This process worked well for a long time. But it’s less appropriate for evaluating today’s golf balls, which incorporate the latest advancements in technology.
Breakthroughs in Technology
Ball manufacturing technology saw several breakthroughs in the 1990s and beyond, complicating selection. Multilayer balls, like the Top-Flite Strata, which provide less spin for more distance and a softer cover for better control around the greens, hit the market in 1996, followed by Titleist’s Pro V1a solid-core, distance ballin 2000. Nike’s One and Titleist’s Next also debuted in the last 10 years.
While these balls all represented technological breakthroughs, they challenged the standard approach ball selection. Basically, you still chose a ball from the tee going forward based on distance and control.
A New Selection Approach
Today, there’s another approach to choosing a ball. This approach is based on going from the green backwards. It’s proving more appropriate for today’s game. Below is a six-step methodology for choosing a ball based on this new approach.
Step 1: Define Your Needs.
First, you need to (1) assess your game, (2) define your needs, and (3) decide what you want and don’t want from a ball. Defining your needs is crucial to choosing the right ball. Remember not everyone with the same ball-striking ability, golf handicap, and/or swing speed will play the same ball. Ask yourself such questions as “Do I need more distance?”, “Do I need more control with my irons?”
Step 2: Chose Test Balls
Select several balls you want to test. Base your decision on your defined needs. Try selecting balls from each categorymultilayered, two-piece, and super soft, low compressionto see how they test. Remember not every manufacturer’s models of the same type ball will react exactly alike.
Step 3: Test from the Fringe
Take the test balls to the fringe of the green. Hit some chip shots and pitch shots, and observe the results. See which balls hit the green and “check” and which hit the green and release. Then, hit some putts and sand-shots. Observe performances. In general, the multilayer balls will feel softer, fly a bit low, and stop or check more on the green than their two-piece counterparts. Super-soft balls will roll the farthest with the least amount of spin after hitting the ground.
Step 4: Test from 100 Yards
Take the balls and move out into the fairway to the 100-yard marker. Test each ball from that point and observe each ball’s checking and releasing characteristics after it hits the green.
Step 5: Test Balls from 150 yards
Now, take your balls out to the 150-yard marker and hit from there. Observe the results. Use the same criteria to evaluate each ball.
Step 6: Test Balls from the Tee
Go to the tee box and hit the balls with your driver. Look for drives that reach their apex or highest point quickly and then level out and carry far down range. What you don’t want to see are drives that start low and then shoot up like a jet plane taking off. Such shots indicate that the driver has added too much spin to the ball, resulting in shorter drives that hook or slice more.
Now, obviously you can’t necessarily go out onto the course to do all this testing. Your local range or practice area will work just fine. Once you’ve completed these steps, you’re ready to choose. Base your decision on the most meaningful combination of performance qualitiesmeaningful to you, that is. For example, golfers who base their iron play on shots that hit and bite close to where they land will probably prefer a multilayer ball, even if it means sacrificing a little trajectory and distance.
Remember a golf ball impacts your game almost as much as your clubs. If the ball you choose doesn’t feel right after selecting it, try another. Give each ball a fair trail.
Choosing a ball that’s right for you, as I say in my golf lessons and golf tips, takes some work, but it’s well worth the effort. Having the right ball is crucial to improving your game and lowering your golf handicap. It also helps build self-confidence. Choose wisely.

Jessica

zachary skinner asked:

When it comes to trying to select the best golf balls, there are literally hundreds of different types, brands and sizes that you can to choose from. Theres no question that using the right golf ball will definitely improve your game but the question is whether the golf balls the pros are using are the best golf balls for you. You should play the best golf balls for your particular game otherwise you may be sacrificing accuracy and consistency for a few extra yards. Some swear that the Titleis Pro V1x or the Bridgestone Tour B330 are the best golf balls, but just as many swear by the cheap ball they bought in their local discount store that gives them both length and short game control.

Cheap golf balls with a high quality rating perform just as well as the same balls purchased brand new. Don’t be embarrassed to shop around for cheap golf balls either. When you’re ready to buy cheap golf balls, you have your pick of cheap Nike balls, Titleist balls, Callaway balls or no brand balls. Some cheap golf balls are sold specifically for driving ranges, and if you use your cheap balls for this you should ignore your length.

A logoed golf ball is a golf ball that you order with your own specific logo printed on the ball. Logoed golf balls are becoming extremely popular, and it’s amazing to see what you can put on a golf ball. Logoed golf balls travel further than you might think. Either way, custom logo golf balls are fast becoming the hot item in the golf bag, and a hit with companies looking for a new and effective way to get their corporate logo and name in front of the right people, on the course.

Titleist says, “The Titleist DT SoLo golf ball applies a high-lift design to maximize distance for golfers with average and moderate swing speeds seeking the ultimate combination of distance with soft feel and guaranteed cut-proof durability. These golf balls are optimized for golfers with higher swing speeds and will reward them with longer, consistent distances of the tee.

Balls with a higher rate of compression, around 110, are much harder and take a lot more energy and power in your swing to flatten on impact. As a general rule of thumb, if you have a fast swing speed you should use compression 110; golfers with an average swing speed should use compression 100, and a slow swing speed golfer a compression of 80.

Allen
