The golf club was in contact with the ball for 4.6 10-3 s.
(a) Find the magnitude of the impulse imparted to the golf ball.
(b) Find the magnitude of the average force exerted on the ball by the golf club.

    1. Chris B Says:

      Impulse is the change in momentum. Since the golf ball is at rest initially it has no momentum. Therefore the final momentum is the impulse.

      momentum = (mass)(velocity)

      momentum = (.045)(45)

      momentum = 2.025

      So using the impulse formula: impulse = (foce)(time)

      2.025 = (force)(4.6×10^-3)

      force = 440

      Impulse is 2.025

      Force is 440
