If you go to Target, Wal-mart, Hobby Lobby, Michaels, Joann's etc you will find a cake decorating section that has pans by Wilton.

Wilton makes all those fun shaped pans (for example I just made one shaped like a teddy-bear).

If you want to do a 3-D golf ball, one that is actually standing up and round then Wilton is your way to go.

You could go the difficult way and use regular 8x8 cake pans, layering them on top of each other and trimming them down to form a ball and then covering with Fondant (which requires rolling etc) or you can go the easy way which is using the Sports Ball Pan Set. (link:)

For that set you can use fondant if you choose, or you can use Wilton's ready-made butter cream icing. The decorator kit (bags & tips) sells for about $12. To make the cake smooth and ready to decorate I would get their cake release (it works perfect - and you don't need to clean the pan!). The cake release is coated onto the pan before you put the batter in. They also sell the icing dye in little packs of 4,8, and 12. You only need a very small bit of icing, and you can use food coloring if you choose. Food coloring will water down the icing a bit whereas the icing dye will help it maintain the consistency.

After coating the cake in the white butter cream icing, pop it in your refrigerator for about 30 minutes. Using a pen cap or something of similar size go ahead and make the golf ball 'divets'.

Have fun!!!
