How long do Golf Balls ‘keep’?

golf balls
squintkid asked:

Say i go a great deal on last year’s ProV1 golf balls. Should i buy a bunch say 5 dozen or so? I don’t lose a bunch of balls when I play (mostly in water or missing a green across a canyon, so they will hold me over a couple of years if I do buy a dozen. Will a year old ball still be good 3 years from now?

My uncle buys 12 dozen with his name on them for about 10 rounds so if you golf ball gets pretty banged upafter round or two assuming you dont golf lot then it usually golf lot then it.

      For at least years.

Taylormade used to sell their balls in plastic sleeves that were meant to protect the balls. Over time, golf balls will absorb moisture, and in turn lose distance. You can expect to lose 10-15% of your distance with 3 year old balls.

Anyway, if you don’t lose a lot of balls, I don’t know why you feel the need to buy a bunch of them to save money. Will the $5 or so you saved per dozen really make that much of a difference 3 years from now?

BTW, Anyone who can’t tell the difference between 20 year old balls and new balls obviously isn’t very good. I would ignore that post.
